Alogonquin Books Editors Talk on What Writers Need to Know PDF Print E-mail
(Raleigh, NC) Algonquin Books editors Chuck Adams and Kathy Pories to meet with local writers to discuss the challenges publishers face today and to help clarify what writers need to know to get published. The discussion on Thursday, July 26, 2007 will be held at the Cameron Village Library. The talk is scheduled to begin at 6:30 PM. Admission is free.
Many believe Algonquin Books is the South’s most prestigious publisher of quality fiction and nonfiction books. With offices in New York and Chapel Hill, they publish about 25 new titles annually.
In 1989 Algonquin was acquired by Workman Publishing, an independent company of twenty years successfully publishing cookbooks, practical books (What To Expect When You’re Expecting), children's books (including BRAIN QUEST), and calendars.
Kathy Pories, a senior editor at Algonquin Books, edits fiction and other creative writing. She has worked with authors Daniel Wallace, author of Big Fish: A Novel of Mythic Proportions, national best selling author, Julianna Baggott, and is currently series editor of "New Stories from the South"
Chuck Adams has worked in publishing for over 35 years, most notably as an editor at Dell/Delacorte, Simon & Schuster, and currently at Algonquin Books. He has edited such writers as Sandra Brown, Joseph Heller, Mary Higgins Clark, James Lee Burke, and Sara Gruen.
Hosting the speakers are Jon Batson and Jean Hedges of the Raleigh Write 2 Publish Group. Both are authors in their own right.
Batson is known worldwide as a singer-songwriter ***** author. His action-adventure novella The Rands Conspiracy is available at local bookstores and on Amazon. His sci-fi book The Trasaron Chronicles is due out this fall.
"We have been doing a series of talks on "Getting Published" at local libraries, independent and chain bookstores to satisfy a need in the writing community. At Raleigh’s Quail Ridge Books and Music and McIntyre’s Fine Books in Pittsboro we drew over 100 people," commented Batson.
Jean’s series of self-help books The DARE System help readers to take control of their lives by becoming aware of their emotions and actions. Available through www.darejournal.com.
